A native of Marin County, California, Nicole Boxer is a Peabody and Emmy Award winning documentary filmmaker. Her work in the film industry includes narrative, feature films, documentary films, documentary series television, and reality television. She holds a B.F.A. in Film, Television and Radio from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Ms. Boxer believes in the unique power of film as an advocacy tool to create social and political change in the world. That belief is the central focus of her directorial debut, HOW I GOT OVER, which explores the transformative power of the arts. Ms. Boxer has been nominated for the International Documentary Association’s HUMANITUS Award for her work on her debut film.
Ms. Boxer’s body of work includes Executive Producer of Oscar nominated THE INVISIBLE WAR, which investigates rape and sexual assault in the military. Boxer has teamed up with the filmmakers again in 2015, this time to investigate campus assault at American Colleges and Universities, on THE HUNTING GROUND, which will mark it’s TV debut on CNN, this fall.
Ms. Boxer was a Producer of the film 14 WOMEN, an inside portrait of the historic women who have reached the highest echelons of power in the U.S. Senate. 14 WOMEN debuted at The AFI/SilverDocs Film Festival in 2007 and was broadcast on The Sundance Channel.
Ms. Boxer’s other feature documentary Producer credits include the films THE PARTY’S NOT OVER, MOJADOS, PLAYGROUND and CLIMATE REFUGEES. Each of those films thoughtfully addresses social issues in need of sustained advocacy, including immigration, sex trafficking, and climate change. Ms. Boxer advocated for those films with Congressional lawmakers, which led to public hearings and changes to related policies.
In the world of television, Ms. Boxer has helped L.A.-based production companies navigate Washington’s politically-charged waters as a Consulting Producer for these Emmy Award Winning shows: JAMIE OLIVER’S FOOD REVOLUTION and TOP CHEF DC.
Ms. Boxer is the daughter of U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and the former sister-in-law of U.S. President Bill Clinton. She sits on the board of Directors for HEADCOUNT.ORG, which registers voters at live music concerts and festivals. She lives with her husband and two sons; one a kindergartener, the other a college student, in Washington, D.C.
