For HeadCount, 2013 was all about finding new ways to participate, speak out, and get down. We went further than ever to activate music lovers to change the world, and it’s just the beginning.
So, we want to say thank you and share some highlights.
Ever want to give Congress a piece of your mind? Us too. So we developed an online tool called #SoundOff that lets anyone tweet at their Congressional rep just by entering their zip code (Try it here and go off!) Hundreds of musicians including Bob Weir, Jeff Tweedy of Wilco, our co-chair Marc Brownstein, Gary Clark Jr. and Macklemore were the first to use it (check out the photos).
We organized Participation Row non-profit villages at Lockn’ and the True Music Festival, making it fun and rewarding to do good at a festival. The results: over 6,000 actions taken and $50,000 raised for various charities.
We teamed up with the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York to create the ”Capitol Community” program, sending local teachers to to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for special training on how to bring the history of rock (and music activism!) into their classrooms. Check out this story about it in USA Today. You can also support the teachers by bidding on the Presidential Box for upcoming shows at the Cap.
Stats came back from 2012 and we learned that HeadCount was in the top 10 of all voter registration groups in the country last year (seventh-most total registrations), and we were tops among orgs with a budget of less than $1 million! Next year, we'll lay down a midterm elections initiative that sets a new standard for how to work music and digital media into a get-out-the-vote campaign.
We’d love to hear what YOU want to see from HeadCount and how we can best serve you. If you have time, click here and answer a couple of questions.
Thanks for being a part of HeadCount. We couldn't do it without you.
